Stamp #1, Spider-Man, artwork by John Romita, Sr., was apparently part of a Super-Hero Portfolio, offered for sale on page 5 of the Marvelmania Catalog #2 (1969-1970). You can see the cover to Marvelmania Catalog #2 here -- a great Buscema shot of the Avengers, that also appeared as a pin-up. Interestingly, both the Spider-Man (used on the stamp) and the Doc Ock shown above, were used in a later Webshooters advertisement. The webshooters ad shown was taken from Marvel Chillers #3. This Marvelmania Catalog artwork was another amazing find by Lex (aka "Batroc") who also sent along the Marvelmania pages. |
